I'm terrible at blogging.
I just followed up a vagina dress post with a beautiful quote from Sam Potts.
Sam Potts
“I love that there can be an art to nearly everything. I love that Frank Lloyd Wright was shameless. I love that geometry is ancient. I love that the littlest things can make biggest differences, like cufflinks and a pinch of salt and sometimes, five minutes. I love the lowercase 'g' of Electra and the '3' of Walbaum. I love that some things are inexplicable, in fact more things than you’d expect. I love that no expertise is needed to appreciate a well-made thing. I love that you can pretty much always assume there is a better way. I love that anything can seem new. I love that a computer is referred to as a machine. I love that music doesn’t have to mean anything to be beautiful. I love that there are theories about handwriting, the composition of matter, and horse racing. I love the light bulb joke about how many boring people. I love the economy of punctuation. I love the Radiator Building, the Queensboro Bridge, and the Sau Voi Corp. on Lafayette St. I love that anything is interesting if you look at it closely enough. I love the smell of hamburgers that comes in through the window every day, every day.”

THINGS THAT EXIST: Leningrad Cowboys
Listen up, everyone. Mark my words. The foot-long pompadour is about to blow up. It's so hot right now.
First of all, Leningrad Cowboys: made a movie in '89 called Leningrad Cowboys Go America about a fictional Russian rock band who travel the United States to become famous. The plot line (from wikipedia): a band with foot-long pompadour hairstyles and long pointed shoes to match, are seeking success in Siberia, but nobody seems to like their music. They are encouraged to move to America, as people will listen to "anything" there. They depart for America, bringing with them a band member who had frozen the previous night while practicing outside. An agent in New York offers them a gig at a wedding in Mexico, and recommends that they change their musical style to rock and roll. They buy a used Cadillac, strap the coffin carrying their frozen band member onto the roof, and set off to earn their way through the Deep South, adapting their musical style to suit local tastes at each new location. All the while they are being driven on and exploited by their money and food hoarding manager Vladimir, who has a seemingly unlimited supply of beer in the ice-filled coffin. They eventually make it to Mexico and their wedding gig, where the thawing bass guitarist is revived with a shot of tequila and joins the group on stage. The manager wanders off, but the band finally finds success in Mexico, making the top ten.
Following the success of the film, the band became a real band and went on tour:
Also, I can't help but notice that Peter, Bjorn, and John are hip to this foot-long pompadour. I would love them more if this was some obscure reference and loose commentary on American's bad taste in music. I realize this is not the case but for the sake of the Asian pompadour and line dance/breaking choreography..
